At Winterfold, our candles are mindfully made in small batches, using coconut and rapeseed wax.
This natural wax gives a slower, cleaner burn - but there are a few things you can do to care for your candle to ensure you enjoy every last flicker.
trim the wick
There is a reason candle makers will remind you of this candle care tip with every candle purchase!
Before each burn, trim the wick to about 5mm. This keeps the flame steady, reduces smoke, prevents sooting, and helps your candle last longer.
allow time for the wax to pool
Wondering why your candles tunnel? When you light your candle for the first time, ensure you have enough time for the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container. This sets the 'memory' of the candle and prevents tunnelling, ensuring an even burn every time.
don't burn in a draught
If your candle burns in a draught, it won't burn evenly, burning much more quickly and creating a tunnel in the wax. It can also be a safety hazard.
be safe
To burn your candle safely:
always place your candle on a heatproof surface
keep away from draughts, pets, & little hands
never leave a lit candle unattended
keep an eye on the time
To get the best results from your candle, we recommend burning for no more than 3-4 hours at a time. This protects the wick and preserves the fragrance or essential oils and ensures you get the most time from your candle.
reuse & recycle
Once your candle has finished, you can repurpose the jar! A gentle wash in warm, soapy water turns it into the perfect holder for tealights, pens, make up brushes, or posies of flowers or herbs. Or simply put the clean jar into the recycling.
Our clear glass jars are made from recycled glass and, along with our amber jars, are made in the UK. Both are recyclable. All part of our commitment to creating sustainable candles and making the most of every vessel.
Each Winterfold candle is vegan, cruelty-free, and designed to bring a little of the forest into your home. If you follow these easy tips, you’ll enjoy a cleaner, safer burn, and a more longlasting experience!
